Some reviews:
Telegraph.co.uk:
Colin Morgan, still at drama school and making a sensational professional stage debut, captures all the vulnerability, confusion and gallows humour of the adolescent hero who finds himself in no end of trouble, before making the happier discovery that trouble is the one sure way of getting girls. By the end you feel like cheering him on to a happy ending.
The British Theatre Guide:
Fans of the novel should delight in seeing it re-created in front of their own eyes and everyone should enjoy witnessing Colin Morgan's unspoilt performance in the title role, helped by the whole ensemble.
London Evening Standard:
Colin Morgan, who has not even graduated from drama school and takes the title role in a stage debut of dazzling conviction, inhabits this limbo world. He is by turns phlegmatic and cynical, disparaging and disconsolate, even defiantly dancing at death's door.
Sean in the Stalls:
Vernon is played skilfully by Colin Morgan (in his professional debut); he has just the awkward physicality needed to portray a 15 year old boy.
What's on Stage (.com):
Most of the evening’s vociferous approbation belonged to newcomer Colin Morgan whose stamina-demanding performance is comfortably inflated alongside those of his foul-mouthed co-stars who frame this cruelly black comic tale of gross exploitation, mass murder and media misrepresentation most brazen.
What's on Stage (.co.uk):
Full of restless energy and youthful charisma from start to finish, Morgan is an absolute delight and carries the weight of the production on his shoulders with ease and a certain swagger, in what is his major stage debut.
The Guardian:
Colin Morgan as Vernon effortlessly sustains the hero's mood of baffled innocence.
Interview with DBC Pierre, the writer of the book which the play is based on.
The Independent:
DBC Pierre: [...]he's thrilled by the young actor Colin Morgan, who plays Vernon. "He's absolutely spot on. I think it's the first time I've had an image in my head of Vernon. I didn't really picture him for the book. If you look in the text, all you know is that he has long eyelashes and dodgy hair."

MADE MY DAY
.WOW.
Yeah, I kinda like looking at Colin pictures too :D
I love that he mentions James McCavoy, because yeah, I like his career path and choices too and it would be lovely if things would go for Colin that way too. They went to the same drama school.
He's so damn young in that play...
Oh it's a shame ;) but if you ever change idea please consider me game. :D
Isn't it just?! And there's something special about praise for him from before 'Merlin' :D
But the more I read about it, the more desperately I want to see him on stage. God, I hope we'll get that chance!
he had a wonderful talent <333
btw, just a quick question, aside from Vernon as in the pic 1 he seems in naked, is he also naked in "the prayer " ?
Thank you especially for the whole James McAvoy thing. I think Colin is absolutely brilliant and utterly beautiful, but he's also unconventional and utterly decent - and I have been having trouble imagining how his career will pan out, how the film/tv/theatre industry will treat him, what chances he'll be considered for. I am hoping he has decades ahead of him of popularity, critical acclaim, fulfilling roles, and happiness - but will the industry play ball? Maybe he is so darned good that he can forge his own new path, but he isn't quite a neat fit for a traditional acting career, is he? (Or is he? Maybe I'm not doing him justice.) But James McAvoy is an excellent example of someone who's a bit of a square peg in a round hole, and also someone who's decent and principled and happy - and he's made a success of it. So why not Colin, too? (Just save me from having to watch him being tortured, as in The Last King of Scotland!)
You give me hope! Given that I am so much older than Colin, I will end up as a very crabby old woman on my death bed, protesting 'I can't die yet! Colin's in a new play next month, damn it! I am so NOT going to miss that.' I guess I'll just have to haunt him.
P.S. I love his dodgy hair. And it's not really dodgy. Or is it...? :-D
He looks so much healthier in these photos, too. Love his cheekbones like crazy, but Merlin is looking awfully thin these days. Colin, eat some cake!
(THANK YOU for compiling all this.)
Yes, I love reading praise for Colin and my biggest fandom wish is to ever see him on stage. I'm hopeful, because he sounds like he's still passionate about theater and the UK has a tradition of actors/actresses who do tv, film and stage work.
On the cheekbones; I do hope he'll be able to do some relaxing after filming on Mull and that he'll get something else to eat than just goats-cheese salad (my daughter is a vegetarian too, and we know from experience that France is quite hopeless when trying to get a meal that doesn't have meat or fish in it.)
